Summary
The objective of the project is analysis, development and application of state-of-the-art methods for solution to large-scale and multiple strongly non-linear problems in mechanics of solids in terms of finite element method (FEM). The way to achievethis is co-operation of two compatible teams. The first one consists of experienced mechanicians and developers of FE package PMD, and the second one consists of mathematicians who have been developing unique methods advantageously applicable to FEM.This co- operation has proven successful in solution of one project. Our approach is based on the FETI (Finite Element Tearing and Interconnecting) method, which was originally developed for the spatial domain decomposition into sub-domains, while thecompatibilit y along interfaces is enforced in terms of forces. This fact suggests that the method can naturally be applied to the solution to contact problems.
