Summary
The aim of this project is to develop and implement efficient, reliable and theoretically supported computational approaches for solving contact problems with physically realistic models of friction in 2D and 3D.New computational methods will be based on recent results concerning the scalable algorithms for the numerical solution of variational inequalities which utilize the FETI (Finite Element Tearing and Interconnecting) domain decomposition methods. These results will be exploited with aim to develop in a sense optimal algorithms with the rate of convergence that does not depend on the norm of finite element meshes. The algorithms will be used for solving contact problems with friction whose coefficient depends on the solution itself and for thequasi static model of Coulomb friction which is expressed by means of the velocity of deformations. The numerical realization of all these problems starts from the dual variational formulation.
