Summary
The objective of the project is development of state-of-the-art computer methods, applicable to the finite element method (FEM), for solution to large-scale and strongly nonlinear elastic problems. As the nonlinearities we are going to consider contact between deformable bodies and large displacements. The way to achieve this objective is co-operation of two teams. The first team consists of experts on continuum mechanics and developers of successful FEM system PMD. The second team consists of mathematicians who develop unique methods that are potentially applicable to FEM. To solve large-scale equation systems we want to make use of the conjugate gradient method with robust preconditioner and economic data storage. Solution to the contact nonlinearity will be based on the domain decomposition in terms of duality-based FETI method. This method can be applied even to the semi-coercive problems.
