Teach(e) with Math4U: A new project for interactive mathematics education

The Teach(e) with Math4U project, which was awarded to the Department of Applied Mathematics of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of VSB-TUO from the Interreg Slovakia-Czech Republic 2021-2027 programme in the Education priority, will introduce the use of innovative methods in teaching mathematics to secondary school teachers.

The project complements a series of Math Exercises for You projects, the output of which is a five-language portal for practicing secondary school mathematics math4u.vsb.cz. The two-year project started in February with a meeting of the project team. "Within the new project, we will create a training course for secondary school teachers who will learn how to practically apply innovative teaching methods using Math4U interactive applications. The Math4U portal serves as an ideal gateway to modern teaching methods. Teachers will learn how to create tailor-made interactive tests, activate students, get instant feedback, enliven lessons with competitions and practice games, or prepare interactive homework. Thanks to the prepared applications and digital technologies, it is possible to achieve higher teaching efficiency, to engage and motivate students more," explains the project coordinator Petra Vondráková from the Department of Applied Mathematics. The project includes not only workshops in schools, but also online meetings and the creation of methodological guides and videos. It also takes into account the linguistic diversity of the border regions and teaches teachers to create tests in multiple languages. Together with partners Viliam Pauliny Tóth Gymnasium in Martina and Hladnov Gymnasium and the Language School with the right to take the state language exam in Ostrava, the course will train 250 secondary school mathematics teachers from the border regions. All teachers and methodologists involved in the project have many years of experience in teaching using modern methods. They will now train other teachers to incorporate the new methods into their mathematics teaching.
