Guest of the Journal Club was Finnish scientist Heikki Kälviäinen

The lecture by Professor Heikki Kälviäinen, who is based at LUT University in Finland and works at the Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition Laboratory (CVPRL), focused primarily on computer vision and machine learning, with an emphasis on their application potential.

Professor Kälviäinen gave a lecture at the FEI Journal Club on, among other things, digital image processing and analysis using machine learning methods for various data-driven engineering solutions. There were also interesting examples from practice, such as automated plankton recognition, identification of individual animals, traffic sign analysis or medical analysis of diabetic retinopathy. After the lecture, there was room for discussion.

The next Journal Club will take place on 19 March, when Professor Carlos Marques from CICECO - Aveiro Institute of Materials, Optical Sensing and Devices Group, University of Aveiro will give a lecture. His research focuses on the development and application of advanced optical sensors in robotics, aerospace and biomedicine.
