Technological literacy finally in Ostrava!

Technological literacy finally in Ostrava!
On 20 May, the National Centre for Industry 4.0 in cooperation with FEECS VSB-TUO, SKODA AUTO a.s. and the Technological Literacy platform welcomed almost two hundred students from primary and secondary schools in Ostrava as part of an educational event on modern technologies.

The day-long program included not only an interactive lecture on the practical use of new technologies, but also a guided tour of the CPIT TL3 Testbed and its Smart Factory Lab and Mobility Lab sections. Here, experts showed the young people the technology in practice and who knows, maybe some of them will come back in a few years as students of one of the faculties. To increase technological literacy, but also to strengthen interest in technical education was the goal of the event, which is now in its third year in Prague. Today for the first time also in Ostrava.

Electromobility, artificial intelligence, 5G networks, the Internet of Things or cybersecurity: these are the topics addressed by the programme to increase technological literacy among secondary and primary school students. The lecture module was tailor-made for pupils and students by the Technology Literacy Platform.

It is the unique environment of industrial testbeds that will materialize the potential of technology in practice. What robots can do, how artificial intelligence is used for autonomous driving, for example, or walking through a factory in virtual reality. Students can try everything out and literally touch it.

The attractiveness of the testbed is confirmed by Prof. Ing. Jan Platoš, Ph.D., Dean of the FEECS VSB-TUO: "Thousands of students from primary and secondary schools, not only from the Moravian-Silesian region, visit the CPIT-TL3 testbed every year. Whole classes come to us for day-long excursions and project days. We are therefore very pleased to be able to combine our exceptional program with the Technology Literacy Project."

The Smart Factory Lab is a platform that was built in accordance with the principles of the Industry 4.0 concept and is a comprehensive, state-of-the-art laboratory for teaching, demonstrating, testing and researching technologies used for the digitalization of industry.

The Mobility Lab is equipped with special facilities for modelling, simulating and testing electronic systems in cars. It focuses in particular on advanced assistance systems and systems for autonomous driving of cars and industrial vehicles. It also includes indoor and outdoor charging stations for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.

The methodology is delivered by the program's Technology Literacy Platform, whose trainers have seen thousands of students through their hands over the course of its existence.
