The activities of the department in cooperation with more than 20 countries in the Pan-European Network for Sustainable Hydropower (PEN@Hydropower) project are aimed at developing a strategy for the digitalization of turbine pumps in both the design and operation phases by using predictive maintenance. The activities have a strong link between almost all EU and Czech priorities in digitalisation, energy and the environment.
It will involve assessing and defining the current barriers to digitalisation in the hydropower sector (technical, economic), identifying and classifying local environmental impacts.
Information will be linked to teaching and research in collaboration with the young generation.
The research activities were also supported by a successful project with national funding.
Another achievement of the department within COST was the successfully supported project Cyber-Physical systems and digital twins for the decarbonisation of energy-intensive industries (CYPHER).
The Department will be dominantly concerned with improving the control of drives for reduced energy intensity and thus reducing the carbon footprint of industrial applications.
