At VŠB-TUO, in all study programmes of Biomedical Engineering, people from the field and practice teach and give their students the best they can. Thanks to close cooperation with the University Hospital Ostrava and the Ostrava City Hospital, students are able to put their acquired knowledge into practice.

The professional practice is structured in accordance with Decree No. 39/2005 Coll. and takes the form of a continuous supervised practice consisting of three blocks. The professional practice takes place at specialized clinical departments, wards, centres and institutes of medical institutions - hospitals, under the guidance of experienced mentors. Students actively participate in technical work and activities with a specialist technician or bioengineer of the respective medical facility. Students complete this practice individually and independently according to a schedule within a given range according to the category of instrumentation.

The guarantor of professional practice in all study programmes is Assoc. Ing. Martin Augustynek, Ph.D.

BIOMEDICAL ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGIES

The total amount of compulsory practical teaching in this study programme is 56 teaching hours. The student can choose between two types of practice:

Professional practice - social services worker

Professional practice is carried out in social service workplaces with a focus on the elderly, clients with disabilities and mental illness (day service centres, day and weekly residential centres, homes for the disabled, homes for the elderly, homes with special regime, sheltered housing, early care workplaces, aftercare facilities). The aim of the continuous practice in social service organisations (state and non-state) is to get to know the common practice of social service workers. The sub-objectives include: familiarising oneself with the specific workplace, understanding clients and their needs, learning general work skills in the context of the workplace, developing communication skills and the scope of care practice with the clients of the workplace. The practice is oriented towards training to perform professional activities in social services, which is focused on assistance, support and care for social service users and is defined by the basic activities in Section 35 of Act No. 108/2006 Coll. on Social Services.

Professional practice - assistive technology technician

Professional practice is carried out with manufacturers and service providers in the field of assistive technologies, telemedicine solutions and remote home care systems. The focus of the internship is exclusively on technical solutions, their operation and management. The student's task is to get to know existing technical solutions and their benefits for the target group of consumers, people with disabilities. Primarily this involves system administration, servicing the equipment used, and database systems management. The aim is also to understand the organisation of the service provider and the logical structure of the services provided.
