Summary
This project is following-up solved projects “Implementation of a passive optical network into education of communication technologies” and “Multimedia services in today’s fiber optic access networks and fiber optic access networks of new generation”. PON’s transmission distance is strongly limited by the attenuation budget of each topology that is under construction or already built. The losses emergent from network branching are compensated by the optical amplifiers operating in the O band (1260 – 1360 nm), C band (1530 – 1565 nm) or L band (1565 – 1625 nm) in dependence on type of PON technology.
Currently are the most used amplifiers based on Erbium in PON networks, i.e. EDFA. Also the utilization of SOA or RSOA semiconductor amplifiers can be very interesting in this matter. Our aim is to study a new architecture of hybrid optical access networks with regards to a type of used amplifier in the optical line. The research and connection of hybrid optical networks will be simulated in Optiwave OptiSystem software application and then will be experimentally verified in the laboratory. The integral part of this project will be also implementation of hybrid optical networks in to the educational process at the Department of Telecommunications.
